Building an AI-Native Board Recruitment Platform in Eight Weeks

Boardly set out to modernise how boards discover and connect with Non-Executive Directors (NEDs).

The vision was clear: build a platform that goes beyond traditional job boards to intelligently match candidates and boards based on experience, culture and fit. They wanted something that felt human, not transactional — a product that could build trust and deliver insight from the first interaction.

When the team approached Doddle, the goal was ambitious. They needed a feature-rich MVP that could handle everything from onboarding to hiring, and they needed it fast. With a tight eight-week delivery window, we knew the only way to meet the deadline without compromise was to combine low-code agility with cutting-edge AI.

We chose OutSystems as the foundation for its flexibility, scalability and speed to deployment. It allowed us to focus on experience, logic and integration rather than infrastructure. Within days, we had working prototypes in the hands of stakeholders — shortening feedback loops and keeping momentum high throughout the build.

At the heart of Boardly is intelligence. We integrated AI-powered culture-fit interviews that use voice analysis to identify communication styles, tone and behavioural cues. These insights help boards understand a candidate’s fit beyond their CV. Alongside this, we built automated profile summarisation that condenses long CVs into clear, comparable insights, helping boards shortlist faster and fairer.

We also developed a matching engine that learns from both sides of the marketplace. Boards can define the type of leaders they’re looking for, while NEDs showcase their skills and preferences. The AI then recommends the most suitable pairings, factoring in experience, sector alignment and personality traits. This intelligent matching drives engagement and keeps the platform dynamic as data grows.

Beyond intelligence, we focused heavily on usability. From frictionless onboarding and simple job posting tools to messaging, connection requests and payment integration, every part of the journey was designed to feel clean, logical and consistent. The OutSystems framework allowed us to create a seamless experience that felt as polished as any high-code solution, but in a fraction of the time.

Security and scalability were also key priorities. The platform was built cloud-native, with performance optimisations and modular components ready for future expansion — whether that’s analytics dashboards, AI-driven candidate ranking, or third-party integrations with HR tools.
